Owner & Director – Tammy Picht
Dance Haven opened its doors in August of 2008. On January 1st, 2011 we moved into a larger studio to accommodate our growing dancers. We now have lots of space for those beautiful leaps. For those new to Dance Haven, I just wanted to give you a little background information. I started my dance training at the age of 4. I’ve been teaching for over 24 years. My teaching experience includes instructing and choreographing for recreational and competitive dancers and gymnasts ages 18 months and up.
My training began as a student at Stage Door of Performing Arts in Coon Rapids and later brought me to Hopkins Dance Center in Hopkins. In addition to studio dance I was a member of my high school dance line and varsity gymnastic team. I went on to train at Chapman University in Orange, California on a full dance scholarship with a focus on performance and choreography. My courses included Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern and Choreography. After moving back to Minnesota I studied Ballroom, Dance History and Dance Topics at the University of Minnesota. Periodically I train in New York City at Steps and Broadway Dance Center as well as various dance workshops and festivals. In 2015 I became certified in Acrobatic Arts.
After college I taught for Hopkins Dance Center, Summit School of Dance and Gymnation. My jobs included instruction in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, and coaching and choreography for dancers and gymnasts ages 18 months & up. I have also been a guest instructor at high schools and dance studios in the Twin Cities area.
My husband’s job brought my family to Montevideo. Since then I have taught Wedding Crasher Dance, Ballroom and Gymnastic classes thru Community Education as well as worked with the Montevideo Gold Dusters.
Performance highlights include the Minneapolis Superbowl Half-time Show, EuroDisney with the American All-Star Dance Team, the American Celebration Annual Dance Benefit in California and a televised Showstoppers National Talent Competition show as a member of the overall high score champions in the senior large group category.
I have been a performer and a teacher/choreographer of many top Regional and National solo and group performances. Some of my students have gone on to dance on TV, teach for studios, study dance at college, dance with performance companies and dance with the Radio City Rockettes.
I love working with kids and adults as well as sharing my passion and talent for dance and acrobatics. The student/teacher ratio in classes will be kept appropriate for the age level & needs of each particular class to ensure that dancers are receiving any needed individual corrections and encouragement. We will focus on proper technique, stage presence, and musicality. Classes that I teach are high energy and focus on technique, performance, style and flexibility. Dance is a fun way to get fit and make friends while learning great life lessons and skills. Dance provides discipline and focus to help reach individual and group goals.
